£20m UK scheme to boost on-street EV charging
The UK Government has released new funds to support the installation of up to 8,000 on-street electric vehicle chargepoints by April 2022.
The £20m (€22.7m) scheme aims to help drivers without off-road parking (and therefore without the opportunity to install a domestic EV charger) to choose a plug-in car.
The central government funding is designed to support local authority projects, and has already backed almost 4,000 chargepoints since 2017.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps MP said: “From Cumbria to Cornwall, drivers across the country should benefit from the electric vehicle revolution we’re seeing right now. With a world-leading charging network, we’re making it easier for more people to switch to electric vehicles, creating healthier neighbourhoods and cleaning up our air as we build back greener.”
