25.01 crore LED bulbs distributed under UJALA; 26.90 lakh LED street lights installed in 25 States/UTs: Shri Piyush Goyal
Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Shri Piyush Goyal, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today, informed the House that as on 12th July 2017, over 25.01 crore smart and energy efficient LED bulbs have been distributed under Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme and 26.90 lakh LED street lights have been installed in 25 States/UTs.
Further, as on 31st March, 2017, the domestic LED programme UJALA and Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP) are implemented in 437 cities and 544 urban local bodies respectively, which is in excess of the target of covering 100 cities, the Minister added.
Shri Goyal also informed that the estimated annual energy savings and estimated reduction of greenhouse gases, on account of distribution of LED bulbs under UJALA and installation of LED street lights under SLNP by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), are 34.29 billion units and is 27.56 million tonnes CO2 per year, respectively. In addition, there are energy savings and reduction of greenhouse gases on account of sale of large quantities of LED bulbs by the private sector suppliers, the Minister added.
