79 new electric vehicle chargers to be installed in Watford over the next few months – EQ Mag
Over the next few months, the council will be installing 79 new electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the town in a significant move towards more sustainable transport in the area…
This development comes at a time when the need for reducing carbon emissions is paramount, and the town has already made notable strides in the adoption of green technology. According to recent data from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Watford ranks in the top 5 UK towns with the greenest transport.
The installation of the 79 new EV charging points – bringing the total number of locations to 112 – will be spread throughout the town, and significantly improve the accessibility and convenience of EV charging for both residents and visitors alike. This move will also encourage the uptake of EVs and further promote the town’s efforts towards a cleaner environment.
The project has been spearheaded by Watford Borough Council and supported by the government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV). The funding for the installation of the charging points has come from the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS), which aims to provide affordable EV charging infrastructure for people who do not have access to off-street parking.
As the world continues to tackle climate change, initiatives like electric vehicle charging points will play an increasingly important role in building sustainable communities. You can find out more about what the council is doing – including its target to net zero carbon town by 2030 or earlier.
