OFDC INSTALS SOLAR UNIT AT CORPORATE OFFICE
Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC) Chairman GK Dhal said the corporate headquarters of the State PSU has been made 100 per cent solar energy reliant from this month.
Dhal said that this will not only help the environment but save approximately Rs 1 lakh on electricity expenditure per month.
The Board of Directors of the OFDC took an important decision to instal 50/60 KWP roof top solar power plant on the corporate office building of the OFDC and also some of the timber depots located at remote places in Odisha to make them 100 per cent solar energy reliant.
Accordingly, after obtaining consent from the Discom operating in the area, the OFDC has successfully installed 50 KWP grid connected solar generation plant utilising at about 560 SqMtr dile space on the rooftop of the corporate office building.
The plant was commissioned on June 8 with recorded highest generation of more than 42 KWP.
Apart from this, the OFDC has also installed four 1.5-KWP solar offgrid systems at four of its timber depots of the OFDC situated in Keonjhar district during February last.
It is further informed that in the second phase, the OFDC has planned to complete setup of solar power plants for its all the administrative office in zones and divisions across the State for sustainable green energy generation and captive use towards larger environmental conservation to make all the offices OFDC 100 per cent solar energy reliant.
Sources said that as the Union Government strongly feels that renewable energy must play a major role for achieving sustainable energy security in the years ahead and to reduce dependency on fossil fuel.
Accordingly, the Government of India has set the target of installing 40,000 MWP of RTS power by the year 2022.
Roof top solar plant will also help distribution utilities/companies (Discoms) in reducing their transmission and distribution losses as power consumption and generation are co-located.
