IKEA’s debut store in India uses solar powered delivery vehicle
The debut store of Swedish furniture retailer opened with much fanfare in the first week of this month has strated using solar powered vehicle for delivery of its products.
The brand which is member of both the RE100 and EV100 initiatives, which promotes the transition to a low-carbon economy, is aimed to have delivery fleet of 100 per cent electric vehicles for delivery. Initially it is targeting to have 20 per cent solar powered vehicle.
Around 4,000 solar panels have been fitted on the roof of IKEA’s first store in Hyderabad. The opening week witnessed foot fall of around 28,000 people every day at the IKEA store. The brand is expecting to note foot fall of around six million visitors in first year of its operation.
IKEA is aimed to become people and planet positive by 2030 while growing its business.
The brand is targeted to set up a total of 25 new stores in the country by 2025. The Hyderabad store will be followed by its second store in Mumbai in 2019.
The Swedish Home furnishing company has stocked more than 1,000 products at the store are under Rs. 200.
IKEA’S largest restaurant with the capability to serve around 1,000 people is also available at the newly inaugurated store.
