Neo Solar Power to set up N-type HJT solar cell production line
Crystalline silicon solar cell maker Neo Solar Power on April 7 announced that it will set up an N-type HJT (heterojunction) solar cell production line, the first one of its kind in Taiwan, with an annual capacity of 50MWp, with completion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2016 and production to kick off immediately.
Neo Solar Power adopts PECVD (plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) and RPD (reactive plasma deposition) equipment developed by Taiwan-based Archers Systems for the production line, company CEO Sam Hong said. The production line is expected to turn out N-type HJT solar cells with an initial energy conversion rate of 23% and Neo Solar Power will use such solar cells to make PV modules for sale, Hong indicated.
Neo Solar Power has been undertaking R&D for N-type HJT solar cells for nearly three years and has obtained numerous patents concerning the manufacturing process, Hong noted. As prices for PV modules made of polycrystalline solar cells stand at US$0.6/W and Japan-based makers quote PV modules made of N-type HJT solar cells at US$1.1, Neo Solar Power will strive to attain production costs for N-type HJT solar cells lower than that for the Japan-based makers to become competitive in price.
In comparison with PV modules made of PERC (passivated emitter and rear cell) monocrystalline solar cells, PV modules made of N-type HJT solar cells have the advantages of lower temperature coefficient and being free of LID (light induced degradation) and PID (potential induced degradation), Neo Solar Power indicated.
