Minister promises Rs 27 crore for solar plant at GMCH
NAGPUR: Nagpur district guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has promised Rs27 crore for a 4.5MW solar power plant at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He also assured Rs5 crore for the development of chest medicine department at Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) at GMCH.
Bawankule said the power plant will help provide round the clock cheaper electricity to the entire GMCH premises and also improve its air quality. The money would come from the District Planning Committee (DPC) which he heads.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a daylong conference on ‘Sleep’ at SSH’s chest medicine department.
GMCH has over 200 acres land with construction on over 50% of the area. Dean Dr A Niswade said that GMCH was emerging as a big health care centre with SSH, the trauma centre and, transplant centre, and upcoming facilities like the lung centre, robotic surgery centre, spine centre etc
Dr Sushant Meshram, professor and head of the chest medicine department, said, “Incomplete or disturbed sleep is one of the main reasons for the huge number of accidents in India.”
Chest specialist Dr Milind Sobani from England, who was here as a faculty for the conference, said least 20% of all accidents happen due to inadequate sleep. He added that using mobiles during night, especially immediately before sleep, is highly detrimental to the brain.
