SMA Sunbelt Energy GmbH has commissioned a PV diesel system on the Caribbean island of St. Eustatius. The intelligent combination of a PV farm, battery-storage system and diesel generators ensures a more sustainable energy supply for the island. Thanks to the integration of 1.9 MWp of solar power and 1 MW of battery power with SMA Fuel Save Controller 2.0, the local electric utility company can now save more than 800,000 liters of diesel fuel every year. As a result, St. Eustatius is playing a pioneering role in the use of renewables in the Caribbean.
