Eight charging stations for electric vehicles on B’luru highway
Mysuru: As part of its overarching plan to boost eco-friendly modes of transportation, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cesc), Mysuru has decided to set up eight stations where motorists can charge their electric vehicles along the Bengaluru highway. Cesc is hoping to complete the project before the end of the 2019-20 financial year. Keen on expanding the reach of the initiative, Cesc, Mysuru will, in the second phase, look to set up these stations within the city limits.
Cesc’s general manager-technical V Prakash said that the charging stations would be set up at the following locations: One each on Outer Ring Road, Srirangapatna Bus Stand, Yeliyur and Maddur, and four stations in Mandya. “We are setting four stations in Mandya, all of which will be within a 10km-radius. Work on these stations will be completed by the end of this fiscal year,” Prakash said.
Prakash said that he hoped to see a rise in the use of electric vehicles in the local region. “Cesc, Mysuru’s jurisdiction starts from Maddur. These stations will ensure that those who have switched to electric vehicles will not face any trouble,” he said.
Cesc’s initiative is being carried out in tandem with the expansion of the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway into a 10-lane road. Once widened, the road is expected to witness a rise in the number of electric vehicles.
Officials in the regional transport office, Mysuru, however are not optimistic about electric vehicles gaining in traction among motorists in the city. “They are yet to become popular in the city. You hardly see any showrooms selling these vehicles or service centres. Only recently have a few scooter companies launched operations in the city,” said an officer in Mysuru’s RTO west office.
