The People’s Committee in the southern province of Dong Nai submitted its document to the Ministry of Industry and Trade mentioning addition of eight solar power projects in Tri An Lake in the national electricity development plan by 2025.

Total capacity of these solar power plants is estimated to reach nearly 5,400 MW in the area of 7,100 hectare in districts Vinh Cuu, Dinh Quan and Thong Nhat.

Director of the Tri An hydropower plant Vo Tan Nhan said solar power plants in Tri An Lake will help reducing loss in electric power transmission as well as curbing power shortage in dry season.

However, there should be reports of environment impact and water quality in locations of solar power projects because the Lake supplies water for the Southeastern region.

In related news, since the beginning of the year, more residents have installed solar panels on rooftop of their houses, according to the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) and the Vietnam Electricity Group’s HCMC Power Corporation.

However, many people are wondering about this year solar power buying and selling price as the price is fixed every year.

According to the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s circular No. 05/ 2019/TT-BCT issued on March 11, 2019, the power company will buy solar electricity from households at the price of VND2,134 (US$0.09) per kilowatt hour upon contracts signed before June 30, 2019.

However, the Ministry has not issued new buying and selling prices upon contracts after the date.

EVNSPC announced that 5,982 households have installed solar power rooftop and the company has spent VND17.15 billion to buy electricity from these households by August 30.
