Norwegian state-owned utility Statkraft AS has acquired the 47.5% stake that its compatriot Agder Energi held in electric vehicle (EV) charging network operator Gronn Kontakt.

Statkraft said the move had enabled it to raise its stake in the Norwegian EV charging business to close to 96% after being a co-owner since 2012.

The utility giant is planning to gain full ownership of the company and will offer the remaining shareholders the chance to sell their shares.

Gronn Kontakt has been in the business for ten years, operating over 230 fast charging stations in Norway, a network Statkraft said it would seek to expand.

The stake purchase also fits into the utility’s plan to achieve growth within the European EV charging market and the renewable energy sector in general. Statkraft highlighted that renewable power must be used for EV charging in order to have an emissions-free transport sector.
