Tunisia’s latest tender for 70 MW of solar gets even better prices
Tunisia’s Energy Ministry has received 57 proposals in its fourth tender for solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity, the winning bids in which fell as low as TND 0.1149 (USD 0.0399/EUR 0.0337) per kWh, according to preliminary results.
The tender round was opened in September 2020 as part of the country’s renewables procurement programme and targeted a total volume of 70 MW in two categories. The preliminary results were announced by the government this week.
In the slot covering the construction of six solar farms of 10 MW each, the top six tariff proposals averaged TND 0.118 per kWh, falling from an average of TND 0.128 in the third round. Meanwhile, the selected offers in the category for 10 smaller plants with individual capacities of up to 1 MW will sell power at an average price of TND 0.180/kWh, against TND 0.202/kWh and in the previous call.
As in the earlier rounds, selected bidders will be awarded long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with state-owned utility Societe Tunisienne de l’electricite et du gaz (STEG).
Tunisia aims to install 1.25 GW of renewables in 2021-2030 in line with a 30% green power target for the end of the decade.
