Iberdrola erects 1st turbine at 317-MW solar-wind project in Australia
Spanish utility Iberdrola SA (BME:IBE) said today it has installed the first turbine at its 317-MW hybrid wind and solar power project in South Australia.
The AUD-500-million (USD 381m/EUR 320m) Port Augusta Renewable Energy Park will consist of a 210-MW wind farm and a 107-MW solar park.
The project will involve the installation of a total of 50 wind turbines of 4.2 MW each, supplied by Danish manufacturer Vestas Wind System A/S (CPH:VWS), and almost 250,000 photovoltaic (PV) modules by China’s Longi.
Iberdrola expects to have the turbines and solar arrays installed by the end of the year.
Once up and running, Port Augusta will generate enough electricity to power 180,000 homes per year, the company says.
Ross Rolfe, chief executive of Infigen Energy, which was acquired by Iberdrola at the end of 2020, said that investing in the project is part of Iberdrola’s ambitious growth strategy in Australia.
