Chirk Host to New Unique EV Charging Point Unveiled
ELECTRIC vehicle users now have one more place to charge their cars in Chirk after the installation of a new charging point.
The new 100kw charging station, at the council car park in Colliery Road, is now open for use.
It is the first charging point of its kind and size in north and mid Wales, and has been installed after a suggestion made by Councillor Barbara Humphreys at the 2019 Chirk Visioning Event, organised by Councillor Jackie Allen.
Cllr Allen believes the new charging point will be a great addition to the area.
She said: “This will be a huge benefit for drivers of electric vehicles, as this Ultra Rapid Charger can deliver a charge of up to 80 per cent in around 20 to 30 minutes.
“Our thanks go to Emma Williams, senior carbon reduction officer and Wrexham County Borough Council for the instillation of this ultra-rapid charging point.”
The visioning event was held to invite local councillors and businesses to suggest ideas for promoting Chirk and tourism in the area.
Cllr Humphreys suggested a charging point would help to accommodate the rise in popularity of electric vehicles, and would work in line with the government’s intention to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles.
She believed it would help to sustain local businesses and increase the amount of time people would stay in the area.
