S Africa’s 2.6-GW REIPPPP Round Attracts 102 Wind, Solar Bids – EQ Mag Pro

South Africa’s Department of Energy has published a list of 39 wind and 63 solar projects which have submitted bids in its latest tender under the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program (REIPPPP).
The deadline for bids was August 16, while the list of preferred bidders is expected to be announced in October-November. The fifth round of the REIPPPP aims to award 1 GW of solar and 1.6 GW of wind capacity and have this grid-connected by April 2024, at the latest.
The 2.6-GW solicitation supports South Africa’s plan to add 11.8 GW of new capacity from renewables, natural gas, battery storage and coal-fired plants to meet an expected rise in electricity demand. Of the planned total, around 4.8 GW will be set aside for wind and 2 GW for solar capacity.
