Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is expected to sign a corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) with Japanese trader Mitsubishi Corp (TYO:8058) for the purchase of solar energy from 450 installations in Japan, The Nikkei reports.
Through Mitsubishi, the US e-commerce giant will buy electricity generated by solar plants installed by West Holdings Corp (TYO:1407) in the Tokyo Metropolitan area and Tohoku region. The Japanese trading house will be in charge of establishing the power aggregating system and will collect some of the electricity sales as commissions, the report says.
The contract will have a term of 10 years and will involve 22 MW of solar power supply.
West Holdings plans to have these new solar parks up and running by 2023, The Nikkei adds.
