SMEC to work on Australia’s largest solar farm – EQ Mag Pro
The Melbourne-headquartered engineering and environmental consultancy has already helped to deliver 10GW of solar energy in Australia.
The New England Solar Farm is being developed on two sites near Uralla, in New South Wales. The project is expected to produce 1.8 GW of renewable electricity, capable of powering more than 250,000 homes.
SMEC will provide concept advice, design and support across geotechnical, environmental, civil, structural and electrical disciplines on stage 1 of the solar farm. It will be working alongside Green Light Contractors (GLC), Spanish-owned Elecnor and renewable energy developer UPC\AC Renewables Australia.
Alberto Costa, SMEC’s NSW manager for power and energy, said: “Once the New England Solar Farm is completed, SMEC will have been directly involved in the design and delivery of solar farms in Australia delivering more than 10 GW, a significant contribution to Australia’s renewable energy future.”
SMEC is an Australian-based international consultancy, with a track record supporting major infrastructure projects around the world. Owned by the Surbana Jurong Group of Singapore, Environment Analyst recently spoke with the CEOs of both companies following the release of their latest financial and sustainability reports (EA 20-Sep-21).
