Neoen claims that the Australian wind farm is set to run full tilt two years after plan, with a two-year delay in setting the road forward – EQ Mag Pro
After struggling to connect to a grid with limited capacity for influx of renewable energy, Neoen SA announced that its Bulgana wind farm and battery project in Australia had been completely switched on two years late on.
104 megawatt wind farm in Bulgana in Victoria, which was launched at limited capacity in 2020, and a 15 MW battery, which was switched on in July, are on the A$350 million ($253 million).
The final time for the project was August 2019 when the construction phase began in 2018.
“Connecting our Bulgana Power Hub to the grid was a long and difficult procedure, but we are proud of having overcome it thanks to the team’s dedication,” Neoen Australia’s Managing Director Louis de Sambucy said in a statement.
The project is funded by a 15-year agreement with Victoria state government that provides the state with a legislated goal to receive 50% of its power from renewables by 2030 – up from 32 percent in 2021.
Nectar Farms, a vegetable producer who was planning to build a 30-hectare glasshouse operation near the wind farm, had part of the government’s support.
However, Nectar Farms went into liquidation in April following a coronavirus outbreak delay. The Bulgana project will now utilise all of the power from the government.
The Bulgana project was devised and built by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, and Tesla Inc provided the large battery.
