The Delhi government has asked all the state-run offices to locate a possible space on their premises to install public electric vehicle charging stations.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi has directed its various departments, including autonomous local bodies, to identify suitable locations and install public electric vehicle charging stations.

It will help government employees to charge their electric vehicles (EVs) during work hours.

As per the report by Mint, a subsidy of Rs 6,000 per charging point is admissible for empanelled vendors.

Addressing the same, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said, “Electric vehicles are being promoted rapidly throughout Delhi in order to implement the vision of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. In Delhi, electric vehicle charging stations are being built speedily.”

“The general public, in addition to government employees, will also be able to charge their vehicles here,” he added.

In order to install the electric vehicles charging points, the heads of Delhi government departments can reportedly get in touch with their respective DISCOM indicating the locations where such charging infra is to be installed.

Making this process smoother for the employees, the Delhi transport department has issued a guidebook to refer to in terms of the EV charging needs, the number of chargers and more.

Within a period of three months, all the heads of government departments have been asked to get EV charging stations installed at their stations, especially at offices with high public dealings.
