MP Kesineni Srinivas inaugurated a 100-KW solar power plant costing Rs. 1 crore on the premises of the 20 MLD sewage treatment plant at Ramalingeswara Nagar on Sunday.
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is setting up four other plants — two in the VMC premises, one each at the Head Water Works and Ajith Singh Nagar.
The solar plants are being established under the BOOT (build–own–operate–transfer) scheme with PPS Enviro Power Pvt. Ltd.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Srinivas congratulated the Corporation and its team on coming with solar plants that were not only environment-friendly but also revenue saving for the civic body.
Mayor Koneru Sridhar said solar plants would be set up in another 20 locations.
