Under the Chief Minister’s Solar Pump Sets Scheme, the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, M.R.K. Panneerselvam has appealed.

The Tamil Nadu government, which has been implementing various schemes for the benefit of the agriculturists for the past two years, has set a record by providing one lakh electricity connections in the last year for the convenience of the farmers who have been waiting for many years for agricultural power connections. In the current year too, steps are being taken to provide electricity connection to more farmers.

Chief Minister’s Solar Power Pumpsets Scheme.

In the Agricultural Financial Report of the last year 2021-22, “With the increasing demand for electricity for well irrigation, in our state where solar energy is available in large quantities, the Chief Minister’s plan to set up solar-powered pumpsets, which has been widely used in agriculture, will be implemented. “Under the scheme to set up stand-alone solar-powered pumpsets, 5000 pumpsets of up to 10 horsepower will be installed at 70 per cent subsidy,” it was announced.

OBJECTIVE AND BENEFIT OF THE PROJECT

The main objective of this scheme is to effectively use solar energy for agricultural work in our state, which has abundant sunshine for most days of the year. Solar-powered pumpsets provide uninterrupted power for 6 to 8 hours during the day, thereby enabling farmers to carry out well irrigation with ease.

Grant details

Under this scheme. Farmers will be provided with 70 percent subsidy to install stand-alone solar-powered pumpsets without electrical infrastructure. The average cost and grant details for AC/DC submersible pump sets are as follows:

Efficiency of submersible motor pump sets Total Price (in Rupees) Government Subsidy (70%) (in Rs.) Farmer’s contribution (30 %) (in Rs.)
5 horsepower 2,69,717 1,88,802 80,915
7.5 horsepower 3,63,898 2,54,728 1,09,17010
10 horsepower 4,57,240 2,54,728 2,02,512

Additional subsidy to small and marginal farmers belonging to Adi Dravida and tribal classes.

Small and marginal farmers belonging to Adi Dravida and tribal classes will be given 20 percent subsidy in addition to 70 percent subsidy. Due to this, the contribution amount of the farmers belonging to this division will decrease drastically.

Additional facilities available after installation of solar pumpset

Free maintenance and insurance facility will be provided for five years of solar powered standalone AC and DC pump sets installed under this scheme.

Eligibility for Solar Pump Set Subsidy

Must be farmers who have already installed wells and are doing irrigation with diesel engine without electricity connection. In case of constructing a new well, the ground water defined by the government will be allowed to be used under this scheme only in Safe Firka. After installing the solar pump set, the farmer has to give an undertaking to connect it to the micro irrigation system and carry out irrigation. If they have already applied to the Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) for free electricity connection, they have to issue a letter of consent to connect the solar pump set to the power grid while getting the free electricity connection as per their patent.
