Consumers need to be more aware of their electricity usage and take steps to save power: TSERC – EQ Mag
Hyderabad : Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) Chairman Sriranga Rao has said that the consumers need to be more aware of their electricity usage and take steps to save power.
In a statement here on Saturday said that Telangana’s power distribution companies (DISCOMs) have been procuring electricity at a higher cost, which has led to an increase in the overall electricity bills for all consumers. This issue has been a matter of concern for many residents in the State, as the rising cost of electricity has had a significant impact on their household budgets. According to recent reports, the DISCOMs in Telangana have been procuring power from various sources at a higher cost by paying Rs.12 per unit during peak hours, including from other states, thermal power plants, and renewable energy sources.
This has resulted in an increase in the cost of power, which is eventually being passed on in the form of higher electricity bills to the consumers, who are already struggling to make both ends meet due to the economic impact of the pandemic. The higher cost of power procurement has been attributed to a variety of factors, including rising fuel prices, the use of expensive power generation technologies, and an increase in the demand for electricity in the state. This has created a significant burden on consumers, particularly those who are already struggling to make ends meet.
The government has expressed concern over the issue and has called for increased awareness among the consumers to save electricity, particularly all government holding offices. Energy conservation is the need of the hour, and consumers must take steps to reduce their electricity consumption to ease the burden on their pockets. To address this issue, TSERC suggest that consumers need to be more aware of their electricity usage and take steps to save power This can include simple measures like turning off lights and appliances when not in use, using energy efficient appliances and reducing the use of air conditioning.
In addition, the state government and DISCOMS can also take steps to increase the use of renewable energy sources, which are generally more cost –effective in the long run. This can include the installation of solar panels, wind turbines and other renewable energy technologies. Saving electricity is an important aspect of living a sustainable lifestyle. Electricity is a vital resource that powers our homes, business and communities, but it also contributes to environmental problems such as climate change. By making small changes to our daily routines and habits, we can reduce our energy consumption and help protect the planet.
