NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, part of Indian state-run power producer NTPC Ltd (BOM:532555), is seeking developers to install at least 1,500 MW/9,000 MWh of interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected energy storage capacity across India.

The company issued an Invitation for Bids (IFB) on Wednesday and will await submissions by June 16. Bids are due to be opened on the same day.

The targeted capacity can be installed at any location across India. NTPC Renewable’s plan is to use the energy storage systems to receive on-demand electricity to meet its round-the-clock and peak power requirements during peak and off-peak hours. The facilities will store power coming from the company’s renewable energy plants, complementing its wind and solar power resources.

The procurement is open to new projects only. Each project should have a capacity of at least 100 MW/600 MWh.

Winners in the tender will enter a 25-year energy storage service agreement with NTPC Renewable, on an annual fixed charge basis. Projects will be executed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis.

NTPC Renewable last December selected domestic group Greenko Energies to add 500 MW/3,000 MWh of ITST-connected energy storage systems in India. The capacity was secured in a tender with a bid of INR 2.79 million (USD 33,952/EUR 31,000) per MWh per year.
