Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the G20 Energy Ministers’ Meeting today and elaborated on how India has grown in the sectors of energy and economy in the past nine years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the G20 Energy Ministers’ Meeting on Saturday said that India is making great efforts in green growth and energy transition. He added that India is the most populated nation and the fastest-growing large economy in the world yet it is moving strongly on the climate commitments. While talking about its success. he said, “We achieved our non-fossil, installed electric capacity target 9 years in advance. We have now set a higher target, we plan to achieve 50% non-fossil installed capacity by 2030. India is among the global leaders in solar and wind power.”
While addressing the meeting which is being held in Goa, he said, “In India, we have connected more than 190 million families with LPG in the last 9 years. We have also achieved the historic milestone of connecting every village with electricity. Our effort is to work for inclusive, resilient, equitable and sustainable energy for all. In 2015, we began a small movement by launching a scheme for the use of LED lights, this became the largest LED distribution program in the world, saving us more than 45 billion units of energy every year.”
While talking about the ethanol-blended petrol, he said, “We have commenced the rollout of 20% ethanol-blended petrol this year, our aim is to cover the entire nation by 2025. We must find ways to bridge technology gaps, promote energy security and work on diversifying supply chains.”
The ongoing 14th Clean Energy Ministerial and 8th Mission Innovation Meeting kicked off today, July 21, 2023, in Goa, under the chairmanship of the Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, RK Singh. The Ministerial’s inaugural session was attended by ministers from more than 30 participating countries, heads of delegations, and representatives from international organisations.
