Romania to soon launch CfD auction for 2 GW of wind and solar – EQ Mag
Romania will shortly launch its first contract for difference (CfD) auction to support 2 GW of wind and solar projects, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which is working with Romanian authorities to implement the CfD scheme, announced today.
The auction will be conducted in the coming month, with successful bidders expected to be announced in November 2023, the bank added. Ahead of the official launch of the tender, there will be an information note to bidders on the Romanian Ministry of Energy’s website.
The inaugural tender of the two-way CfD support scheme seeks to provide 15-year backing to 1 GW of onshore wind power and 1 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) power capacity. Overall, the plan is to award CfDs to 10 GW of wind and solar capacity by 2030.
The new CfD auction scheme is in line with Romania’s Recovery and Resilience Plan milestones and its renewable energy targets. Mark Davis, EBRD regional head of Romania and Bulgaria, said it is key to unlocking private sector investment and ensuring the shift to a resilient and green energy sector.
