Romanian hydropower producer Hidroelectrica has put on hold plans for the construction of an up to 1.5-GW solar park in southwestern Romania’s Oltenia region, according to a regulatory filing cited by online news provider Economica.

The company has cancelled a tender for feasibility studies related to the proposed project, saying that issues related to the legislative procedures have made it impossible to award the contract. Bids in the competitive round launched early in October were due by December 11.

An earlier announcement in Romania’s Public Procurement Electronic System shows the tender was called to award a RON-3-million (USD 659,230/EUR 603,500) contract for the studies.

Hidroelectrica’s proposal, supposed to entail an investment of more than EUR 1.2 billion (USD 1.29bn), was to use land directly concessioned by the State Domains Administration (ADS) in Dabuleni, Dolj County, to install the huge photovoltaic (PV) park. The complex was expected to generate roughly 1.75 TWh of electricity annually.

The project, coming with a 300-MW integrated energy storage facility, was planned to surpass the 1,044-MW solar park that Actis-backed Rezolv Energy intends to install in Arad County, western Romania.
