A total of 88 bids with a combined capacity of 191 MW were selected in the last round of Germany’s rooftop solar tender for this year, which attracted proposals with nearly double the targeted capacity.

The Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) received 184 bids for solar installations on buildings and noise barriers with a total capacity of 373 MW and twelve bids were excluded from the competition due to formal errors, the power regulator said on Tuesday.

The volume-weighted average price in the round came in at EUR 0.0958 (USD 0.105) per kWh, which is below the level of EUR 0.1018 from the previous round. Bids in the latest round ranged from EUR 0.088 to EUR 0.099 per kWh.

Most of the awards went to projects in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia (14 projects of a total of 27 MW), followed by Lower Saxony with 13 awards for 25 MW, Bavaria with 13 awards totalling 21 MW and Baden-Wuerttemberg with 11 awards with a combined capacity of 20 MW.

The round was open to solar projects with an individual capacity of between 1 MW and 20 MW. As many as 64 of all awards were projects up to 2 MW. The largest successful bid has a capacity of 17 MW.

The first two rounds in this category in 2023 allocated a total of 388 MW. The first tender did not meet the intended 217 MW goal as selected projects amounted to 195 MW. However, interest in the competition rebounded in the second round, which saw a significant oversubscription.
