In  Short – Jindal Stainless pledges to adopt science-based targets as part of its strategy to achieve net zero emissions. This commitment underscores the company’s dedication to aligning its actions with scientific recommendations, driving progress towards a carbon-neutral future

In Detail –  Jindal Stainless, the largest stainless steel manufacturer in India, has formally pledged its commitment to the near-term science-based emissions reduction goals and net zero targets set by the Science-Based Targets initiative. The formulation of these objectives will involve a thorough evaluation of the company’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory throughout its operations and the entirety of its value chain. Moving forward, it will establish science-based targets in accordance with the most recent climate science, deemed essential for fulfilling the objectives of the Paris Agreement, which aims to restrict global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This process is expected to occur over the next 24 months, with validation of the targets by the SBTi.

Jindal Stainless has implemented various measures as part of its decarbonisation strategy in recent months. These include setting up a green hydrogen plant and securing a contract for wind-solar hybrid renewable energy project of 300 MW capacity. Additionally, the company aims to generate more than 1.9 billion units of clean power annually through these efforts, which have the potential to reduce carbon emissions by over 1.352 million tonnes per year.

In March 2023, Jindal Stainless announced its plans to build two rooftop solar plants with capacities of 21 MWp and 6 MWp at its Jajpur and Hisar plants, respectively.
