Hindustan Zinc Boosts Decarbonisation with Renewable Energy Integration – EQ
In Short : Hindustan Zinc is enhancing its decarbonisation efforts by integrating renewable energy. This move aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. By adopting renewable energy sources, Hindustan Zinc aims to achieve significant environmental benefits and contribute to a greener future.
In Detail : Hindustan Zinc, a renewable energy company in India’s commercial and industrial sector, announced the commencement of the first phase of its renewable energy integration. Active business units of Hindustan Zinc in Rajasthan are now utilizing renewable energy sources.
Recognized by the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2023 as the world’s most sustainable metals and mining corporation, the initiative marks a significant step in the company’s decarbonization efforts.
Hindustan Zinc has entered into Power Delivery Agreements (PDAs) with Serentica to supply 450 MW of round-the-clock (RE-RTC) power, ensuring operational sustainability and reliability across all major business divisions.
Serentica has started providing clean energy from its 180 MW solar plant to Hindustan Zinc. Currently, Hindustan Zinc has a captive solar power capacity of 40.70 MW and depends on conventional fuel sources for the rest of its energy needs. The integration of Serentica’s renewable electricity will increase the share of renewable energy in the company’s total energy mix. The initiative aims to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 0.45 million tons annually.
As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, highlighted that the project would not only decrease their reliance on conventional fuels and reduce their overall environmental impact but also support the transition towards fully decarbonized operations, leading to a sustainable future.
