New Delhi: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the National Test House (NTH) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the Standards & Labeling (S&L) Program, a crucial initiative designed to promote energy efficiency across the country.

The MoU has been signed by BEE Secretary Milind Deore and NTH’s Director General Alok Kumar Srivastava in the presence of Ministry of Power’s Secretary Pankaj Agarwal and Department of Consumer Affairs’ Secretary Nidhi Khare. This partnership is set to bolster the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of energy performance standards, ensuring that Indian consumers make informed choices.

Under this MoU, NTH will serve as a referral laboratory for BEE, providing resolution for technical disputes related to test results. Additionally, NTH will conduct capacity-building training for BEE officers at its regional laboratories and the BEE Headquarters in Delhi. The collaboration will also allow BEE to utilize NTH’s extensive testing facilities to ensure that appliances comply with stringent energy performance standards, while NTH will assist in enhancing BEE’s laboratory capabilities.

Furthermore, NTH officials will offer their technical expertise by participating in testing processes and serving on BEE’s technical committees. The MoU also includes provisions for reviewing the Standards & Labeling (S&L) Program, including check testing procedures, to ensure the accuracy of star labels and prevent their misuse by manufacturers.

This MoU is poised to significantly enhance the S&L Program by leveraging NTH’s testing and calibration expertise. This collaboration will ensure that consumers receive accurate and reliable information about the energy efficiency of appliances, leading to smarter and more sustainable choices. The partnership highlights the commitment of both BEE and NTH to advancing India’s energy efficiency goals, contributing to the nation’s broader objectives of reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
