In Short : The MNRE has increased the ALMM solar module capacity by 2 GW, enhancing domestic manufacturing and addressing the growing demand for solar energy in India. This expansion aims to boost energy security, reduce import dependence, and promote local manufacturers, stimulating investment in the renewable energy sector and supporting India’s sustainability goals.

In Detail : The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has increased the solar module capacity on the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) by 2,084 MW. The new total module manufacturing capacity now stands at 56.5 GW.

The new entrants on the list include Junna Solar System (94 MW), Sun N Sand Exim (69MW), and Powertrac Solar Projects (47 MW). Companies like Waaree Energies, RenewSys India, and Goldi Solar have further increased their enlisted capacity by 1,144 MW, 495 MW, and 235 MW, respectively.

Sunbond Energy, has been included in the provisional ALMM list with an applied capacity of 290 MW but its current enlisted capacity is 60 MW.

MNRE has also revised the guidelines for the inspection and final enlistment of provisionally listed manufacturers. Now, the final enlistment must be completed within two months of the application.

The provisional enlistment automatically becomes final after two months if the inspection has been conducted by the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) but MNRE has not yet received the recommendation.
