In Short : ReNew Power has partnered with Akshaya Patra Foundation to power its kitchens with solar energy. This collaboration aims to reduce the foundation’s carbon footprint while providing sustainable energy for its meal distribution program. The initiative aligns with ReNew Power’s commitment to promoting clean energy solutions, supporting Akshaya Patra’s efforts to provide nutritious meals to underserved communities across India.
In Detail : ReNew, a leader in renewable energy, is set to install solar power systems in Akshaya Patra Foundation’s kitchens, furthering environmental sustainability initiatives across India. According to its co-founder Vaishali Nigam Sinha, the company will invest around ₹2 crore to solarize these kitchens, with project completion expected within two months of commencement.
The initiative, led by the ReNew Foundation under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), will focus initially on kitchens in Uttar Pradesh, including facilities in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Vrindavan, Mant, Barsana, and Lucknow, with new kitchens being developed in Gorakhpur, Agra, and Kanpur.
Akshaya Patra has also requested solar installations for its Lucknow and Kanpur kitchens. Sinha highlighted that each solar installation could save ₹10-12 lakh annually in electricity costs per kitchen, enabling the Foundation to serve an additional 1.25 lakh meals to children every year over the next two decades. It will also maintain these solar systems for 20 years, ensuring sustained savings and impact.
Sinha emphasized it’s commitment to making a meaningful, lasting impact by using renewable energy expertise to uplift communities. Akshaya Patra, a non-profit organization and partner in the government’s ‘PM Poshan Abhiyaan,’ has been serving mid-day meals to underserved school children since 2000, supporting both education and nutrition.
