Hygenco Partners with Danish Firm Topsoe as Licensor for its Green Ammonia Plant – EQ
In Short : Hygenco has partnered with Danish company Topsoe as the licensor for its upcoming green ammonia plant. The collaboration will leverage Topsoe’s expertise in ammonia production technologies, ensuring efficient and sustainable processes. The project aligns with global efforts to decarbonize industries by producing green ammonia, a key component for clean energy and fertilizer solutions, using renewable hydrogen.
In Detail : Hygenco Green Energies, a trailblazer in cost-efficient green hydrogen production, has partnered with Denmark-based Topsoe, a leading provider of energy transition technologies, to serve as the licensor for its upcoming green ammonia plant in Gopalpur, Odisha. The project, located in the Gopalpur Industrial Park, aims to establish one of the subcontinent’s first large-scale green ammonia facilities, with operations targeted to commence by 2027. This initiative builds on Hygenco’s earlier achievement in 2024, when it commissioned India’s first commercial green hydrogen plant.
Highlighting the collaboration, Amit Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO of Hygenco, stated, “As the world tackles critical environmental and energy challenges, Hygenco is driving significant progress in energy transition and decarbonization. We are thrilled to leverage Topsoe’s advanced technology to scale green ammonia production effectively.”
Hygenco plans to incorporate Topsoe’s dynamic green ammonia loop technology, renowned for its flexible and efficient operations that optimize overall performance. This state-of-the-art solution represents a crucial milestone for the mega ammonia project and aligns with Hygenco’s vision to deliver innovative decarbonization solutions.
In a significant financial move, Hygenco recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with REC, a Government of India enterprise, securing $280 million in debt financing to support the development of its green ammonia project. This strategic step reinforces the company’s commitment to advancing clean energy infrastructure.
Elena Scaltritti, Chief Commercial Officer at Topsoe, emphasized the global importance of the project, saying, “Green ammonia is vital for reducing emissions in energy-intensive industries and long-distance transport. Deploying decarbonization at scale is imperative, and Hygenco’s initiative will make a meaningful contribution toward this goal.”
As a leader in green hydrogen and ammonia solutions, Hygenco has forged numerous strategic partnerships within India and internationally. These collaborations aim to bolster the supply of green hydrogen and ammonia, underscoring the company’s pivotal role in advancing sustainable energy and supporting global decarbonization efforts.
Headquartered in Gurgaon, India, Hygenco is a leader in the development and deployment of large-scale, commercially viable green hydrogen and green ammonia projects. The company has extensive capabilities in designing, building, and operating green hydrogen facilities, making it a key player in the clean energy transition. Hygenco recently achieved a significant milestone by commissioning India’s first green hydrogen project in Hisar, which was inaugurated earlier this year by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel of India. This project highlights Hygenco’s expertise and commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions. Looking ahead, Hygenco plans to invest $2.5 billion over the next three years to set up additional green hydrogen projects across India.
