Groningen – Sun Park Developer Powersfield from Dokkum will build a solar panel factory in northern Groningen. The plant will have a total production capacity of 1.2 million panels per year. The start of construction is scheduled for the end of this year and the first solar panel off the assembly line late in 2018. With the construction of the plant involves an investment of 15 to 20 million euros.

Powersfield realizes ground-based solar parks at home and abroad. It will be grounds being bought or rented, and converted to a (temporary) solar farm. The solar parks are equipped with panels that come from our own factory. Half of the panels is designed to produce for their own solar parks and the other half for the Dutch market. The daily management of the factory is owned by Elwin Ter Horst, who was appointed as a new director.

Northern Groningen as a logical choice

The decision to establish the solar plant in North Groningen, was a logical choice. Elwin Ter Horst: “Groningen including the presence of Eemshaven good infrastructure. Made in Holland

In the factory, which will be great between 5,000 and 10,000 m2, the various parts of the solar panel are assembled. In the Netherlands there is great demand for high quality panels. By assembling the panels in the Netherlands, Powersfield intends to meet a need for panels ‘Made in Holland’. The company is looking for opportunities to build a solar park adjacent to the location so that the factory can provide for its own energy.
