Naidu pats power officials, wants more energy from babus to make Andhra number one
Setting high standards for the energy wing, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu directed the officials not to deviate from the nine-point agenda which has been put in place. Ahead of the upcoming energy ministers’ national conference in Visakhapatnam, Naidu reviewed the energy sector’s performance at his residence in Undavalli on Sunday. Stating that AP has become a role model for other states in the energy sector, the CM said the officials must strive for worldwide acclaim. The Visakhapatnam national conference is a good opportunity to learn from other states and identify best practices. “Showcase our achievements in the power sector,” he said. Pointing out that the state is power-surplus and that the transmission and distribution losses have been reduced to single digits, he said bringing electricity to remote tribal areas and augmentation of renewable power generation and implementation of energy-efficiency techniques were laudable.
The CM said maintaining a high-level performance is extremely important. “Maintaining adequate power to meet demand under all circumstances, use of scientific load forecasting techniques and studying the exponentially growing demand due to industrial promotion apart from construction of the new capital city of Amaravati should be on top of the nine-point agenda,” said the CM. The CM asked energy Kala Venkata Rao to focus on completion of the planned 15,000 mw generation from renewable energy — 10,000 mw from solar and 5,000 mw from wind — by 2019. “Officials should try to get more funds from the Centre under central-sponsored schemes,” the CM directed. Senior officials Ajay Jain, Sai Prasad, K Vijayanand, MM Nayak and Visakhapatnam district collector Praveen Kumar participated.
