A 500 megawatt (MW) power plant will come up in Chhattisgarh under the state’s solar power project said the Purander Mishra, chairman of Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) on Wednesday.
The first phase of the project – a 250 MW capacity solar plant – will be installed in Rajnandgaon. The initial formalities for the same have already been completed, added Mishra.
Under the state’s project to promote solar energy, power plants have been installed in government schools across Chhattisgarh. In the year 2016-2017, around 159 schools were using solar energy as a source of power.
Even government hospitals have come under the solar electrification programme, with over 31 government hospital with solar power plants, Mishra told reporters. He also appealed to the people to use renewable energy. “Depending on the non-renewable sources of energy is not sustainable in the long run. Solar energy is a more sustainable form of energy. Energy generated from sunlight neither emits any harmful gas nor has any negative effect on the environment,” said Mishra.
“Chhattisgarh High Court is completely dependent on the solar energy project of CREDA for its power needs,” added Mishra.
He also mentioned the Saur Sujala Yojana that was launched last year in November. “It was targeted that in the first phase around 11,300 solar powered irrigation pumps will be distributed to the farmers of Chhattisgarh out of which 8,741 have been distributed,” said Mishra.
“In the second and third phase of the scheme installation of around 20000 solar pumps in each phase has been targeted costing Rs 748.74 of which amount of only Rs 24.55 will be recovered from the beneficiaries. Rest will be given by the various department of government,
