States accounting for Rs. 3,62,231 crores of DISCOM debt join UDAY: Shri Piyush Goyal
New Delhi, July 20: Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines, Shri Piyush Goyal, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today, informed the House that so far, 26 States and 1 UT have joined Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY) for financial and operational turnaround of their DISCOMs.
The Minister said that out of Rs.3,75,430 crores debt of state owned power distribution utilities, as existing on 31-03-2015, UDAY States account for Rs.3,62,231 crores of debt.
The States/UT under UDAY scheme include Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Puducherry. States and their Distribution Utilities have issued Bonds worth Rs.2.32 lakh crores.
