State powers 300 youths to light up its green initiatives
The Rajasthan government has trained 300 youths in Solar Electric System Installers and service provider trade as part of its initiatives towards providing livelihood opportunities for them in fields of renewable energy, environment and green sector, solar energy, water treatment and waste recycling.
This has been done by the Rajasthan Skill and Livelihood Development Corporation (RSLDC) in association with five training partners from the private sector.
Another 118 youths have been trained in PV-Installation and Maintenance trade, around 116 have acquired skills related to Windmill Installation and Maintenance while 60 youths now have the knowledge required for Solar Hot Water System Installers.
With more solar and wins power units coming in regularly, Rajasthan has immense scope and opportunity for livelihood in solar and wind energy; and the training programme is part of the government’s initiatives to have a requisite skilled work force to meet the market requirements.
To expand training, RSLDC has included some more courses aligned with the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) and entered into MOUs with Sector Skill Council for Green Jobs, rubber sector skill councils, Jute Sector Skill Council and Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board.
It shall also provide skill training in green sector related to goods and services that will benefit the environment and help in energy conservation, limit gas-house gas emissions, minimise waste and pollution, protect and restore ecosystems, and support adaptation to the effects of climate change.
In the future, the youth will be trained in 16 similar trades. The focus is on training wood and pipe engineers rather than carpenters and plumbers.
RSLDC, under the Smart City mission, will also educate the youth for proper disposal of waste, and trained, skilled manpower will be able to efficiently interact with the residents of the city and encourage it.
“With new Centres of Excellence coming up and having the most advanced infrastructure, which are at par with the industry, the department is striving hard to impart quality training to the youth of the state. The state government has promulgated the first Government Skill University, RISU, and established two Centres of Excellence which are both related to green job sectors, i.e. Centre of Excellence in Environmental Management (CEEM) by Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) and the Renewable Energy & Advance Solar Centre of Excellence by the French giant Schneider,” said Krishna Kunal, commissioner, skills, employment and entrepreneurship.
