ANERT scheme offers compensation up to ₹3 lakh in addition to assured treatment aid of ₹30,000

KOZHIKODE: The Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT) on Monday launched a State-level insurance scheme for technicians working in the renewable energy sector. Minister for Power M.M. Mani launched the scheme under the Centre’s Akshaya Urja initiative.

The insurance covered by United India Insurance Company offers compensation up to ₹3 lakh, in addition to assured treatment aid of ₹30,000. Officials said it was for the first time an insurance scheme had been announced for technicians working in the risky sector.

Launching the scheme, Mr. Mani said the State should exploit all possible renewable energy sources to meet the ever-increasing demand for power. “Besides the existing energy sources, we should think of new possible options through research and development activities,” he added.

The Minister pointed out that the government had earmarked the required funds for the exploitation of more renewable energy sources and technologies.

“The insurance scheme should be popularised in such a way that all those who work in the sector can avail its benefits,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, ANERT Regional Programme Manager C.K. Chandrabose said the insurance coverage would be made available in the first phase for those skilled in setting up bio-gas plants and solar-powered kitchens.

ANERT Director R. Harikumar, Mayor Thottathil Raveendran, KSEB Chief Engineer S. Parameswaran, and officials of the United India Insurance Company were present. ‘Souraveedhi’ the official news letter of ANERT, was released on the occasion.
