State to generate cheapest and green renewable power, signs pact

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Government on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with M/S Renew Joule Private Limited for the execution of three power plants using renewable technology known as Closed Loop Vertical Turbine (CLVT).
The 120 mega watts project to be executed on Build, Own and Operate (BOO) basis is a first its kind renewable technology in Asia.
The principle of this renewable energy is to convert kinetic energy into electric energy.
The agreement was signed between an official of the State’s Power department and representative of the Renew Joule Private Limited in the presence of Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma.
According to the officials of the company, the CLVT is a new technology which works on the principles of buoyancy and gravity that seeks to convert kinetic energy into electricity.
The project will be implemented in three places different of the state – Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi, Mendipathar in North Garo Hills and Ampati in South West Garo Hills.
According to the company director Manoj Sompura, land will not be an issue to execute such a project, and 24 mega watts of power will be initially generated in each of the three locations and only 5 acres of land will be required.
The company official informed that the construction work will start by the first week of January, 2018 and by the month of April the first unit will be dedicated to the people of the state.
Earlier, addressing media persons, Dr Sangma said that the project using new technology to generate energy will usher in bring a revolution in the power sector. The Chief Minister also informed that the power consumed will be cheaper as well as eco-friendly. “The power passed on to the consumers will ultimately be competitively cheap. It not just green and not just renewable but it is cheapest power to be generated from this new technology,” Dr Sangma said.
