Demand for solar power on the rise
Kakinada: Several educational instructions, particularly medical and engineering colleges, have been opting for solar power in a big way in East Godavari district. The main reason can be attributed to low cost and encouraging pollution-free and environment-friendly power.
As part of this activity, Aditya Engineering College and Pragati Engineering College in Surampalem opted for 1 MW (two 500 KW) and 200 KV installations respectively. This involved an expenditure of Rs 6 crore to the former and Rs 1 crore to the latter.
Similarly, BVC College of Engineering at Odalarevu, the AIMS (Amalapuram Institute of Medical Sciences) at Amalapuram and GSL Medical College and Hospital at Rajanagaram in Rajamahendravaram suburbs also opted for solar power for their power requirements.
Apart from these, several other educational institutions across the district also showed keen interest to have solar power installations. In addition to these, several government offices are also opting for solar power for their needs.
According to East Godavari NREDCAP (New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of AP) district manger G Satyanarayana, these instructions would get 20 percent subsidy on cost of installations. As the government was very keen in providing alternative power supply in the form of solar power, “We are providing incentives in the form of subsidy,” the DM added.
