Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd or AEML informed of launching a green energy initiative in Mumbai which will provide customers with the flexibility to set their own targets for renewable energy.
Under the current scheme of the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) providing 100 per cent RE power, AEML customers can approach options to purchase RE power by paying 66 paisa extra.
AEML will be able to provide its customers Renewable Energy certificates as the company will receive 700 MW supply from hybrid solar and wind generation in the state of Rajasthan towards the end of the year 2022-23.
The company will also add 1,000 MW of power with a substantial component of green energy. Adani Electricity stated that the company is committed to sustainability and aligned to India’s commitments under the Paris Agreement to achieve renewable energy targets.
More than 30 per cent energy requirements of the Adani Electricity will source through renewable energy by the year 2023. This share will further be increased to 50 per cent through consent sought from MERC to add 1,000 MW of round-the-clock power with more than 51 per cent component from renewable energy.
Adani Electricity mentioned that this innovative step will be a significant contribution for customers to meet their sustainability goals. The company will enable its corporate customers to meet their sustainability commitments in Mumbai through a combination of direct renewable energy supply and indirect offsets.
Kandarp Patel, CEO and Managing Director, AEML said that as the company significantly scales up its renewable energy projects, Adani Electricity will empower its customers to choose the source of their energy, making green electrons accessible to everyone and enabling the green energy transition.
Patel further stated that the company can guarantee 100 per cent green energy supply and certificates in Mumbai without any modifications or disruptions. AEML will create customized renewable energy solutions for all customers to take full advantage of the renewable energy opportunities and achieve their sustainability goals.
