Adani Energy acquires transmission project to evacuate 7 GW of renewable energy from Khavda – EQ
In Short : Adani Energy has acquired a major transmission project aimed at evacuating 7 GW of renewable energy from Khavda, Gujarat, to the national grid. This project is a crucial step in facilitating the transport of large-scale solar and wind power from the region to meet growing energy demands. It supports India’s renewable energy targets and strengthens infrastructure for a sustainable energy future.
In Detail : Adani Energy Solutions Limited has acquired the Pune-III Transmission project (part of Phase IV, Part D) from the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) for Rs 187.8 million. The project will enable the evacuation of 7 GW of renewable energy from the Khavda renewable energy zone in Gujarat under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer model.
Adani Energy will handle the project’s design, financing, construction, operations and maintenance, including obtaining the transmission license from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission. Key infrastructure includes a 765/400/220 kV substation at Pune-III, 765 kV and 400 kV transmission lines, and associated equipment. The project is slated for completion within 24 months, with a 35-year operational period before being transferred to the central transmission utility at no cost.
In September 2024, PFC invited bids for a transmission service provider to establish an inter-state transmission system to evacuate 3 GW of renewable energy from Raghanesda, Gujarat, with a 24-month timeline.
In the same month, REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of REC Limited, transferred the Special Purpose Vehicle of Khavda IV A Power Transmission Limited to Adani Energy Solutions for the evacuation of 7 GW renewable energy.
