Administration embarks on process of renewable lease ownership of bastis
Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum district administration has embarked on the process of renewable lease settlement (ownership) of illegal settlements in areas outside company command areas in city.East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amit Kumar issued a schedule of holding camps in different localities set up on government land, outside Tata Steel command areas, commencing from April 3.
Amit Kumar said:“ We have formed two teams comprising senior officials who would be assigned at different camps to undertake scrutiny of documents produced by claimants for renewable lease settlements”.
According to information one team would be led by Jamshedpur circle officer, MaheshwarMahto, the other team would be led by assistant settlement officer Jaikant Singh. East Singhbhum additional deputy commissioner Saurabh Kumar Sinha would be monitoring the camps.
Significantly, the state cabinet had on February 20 this year, resolved to regularize illegal settlements on government land in urban areas, a decision seen in political circles as a move to woo large populace residing in urban slums outside company command areas in Jamshedpur East, the chief minister Raghubar Das home constituency.
There are nearly 86 urban slums with a total populace of over 4 lakhs who have been clamouring for ownership rights for more than two decades.
The KendriyaBastiVikasSamity, an organisation fighting for the cause of the slum dwellers, which has been demanding ownership rights of the slums, has welcomed the decision of the state government.
