AMU gets new rooftop solar panels

Agra: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice chancellor (VC) professor Tariq Mansoor on Monday inaugurated new on-grid solar panels on the rooftops of Senior Secondary School-Girls, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Sarojni Naidi Hall, S N Hall, Women’s Polytechnic, Bibi Fatima Hall, Department of Computer Engineering, New Hall for Girls, Trauma Centre and Nadeem Tarin Hall.

Dr Mohammad Rihan (member in-charge, Electricity Department and NISE-MNRE Empanelled Nodal Officer, Grid Connected Solar PV) said that with the new installations, the total capacity of solar plants in the campus had reached 6.5 Mega Watt Peak. “About 4.8 Mega Watt Peak capacity plants have been operational in the campus for the past two years,” he said, adding that the university is also equipped with a 3.3 MW ground mounted solar plant.

Rihan also pointed out that AMU has the largest installation of solar power generation plants among all academic institutions in the country. “AMU also boasts of having the largest separate rooftop and ground mounted solar plant installations among Indian academic institutions,” he said.
