Andhra Pradesh saves ₹5,709 crore worth of electricity under the PAT scheme – EQ Mag Pro
Visakhapatnam: AP has saved about 0.818 million tonnes of oil equivalent (mtoe) of electricity worth Rs 5,709 crore in the all the three cycles of PAT (perform, achieve and trade) scheme. The state energy department on Wednesday released the results based on the data provided by the Union power ministry-led Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
As per estimates, the energy savings have reduced carbon dioxide emissions to the tune of 2.464 million tonnes. The PAT scheme is being implemented in the high energy intensive industries. The major objective of the scheme is to mandate specific energy efficiency improvements for these energy intensive industries. AP is one of the few states to create a framework for promoting energy efficiency in industries, including implementation of the PAT scheme. The state is deploying internet of things-enabled energy efficiency technologies in small and medium industries.
The Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) in co-ordination with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency organised a workshop on PAT Scheme on Wednesday. Representatives of various large-scale industries participated in the workshop. Special chief secretary (energy department), K Vijayanand, said that PAT scheme is a market-based compliance regulatory mechanism to accelerate cost-effective energy efficiency measures in large energy-intensive industries. “AP saved energy worth Rs 5,709 crore under the scheme. The state has laid emphasis on improving industrial energy efficiency. The efficiency leads to productivity gains by lowering maintenance costs and increasing production yields per unit of input,” said Vijayanand.
APSECM CEO A Chandra Sekhara Reddy said APSECM implemented an IoT-based demonstration project in MSMEs in coordination with IIT, Hyderabad in Padma Ceramics in East Godavari district. “The project was a success and the IoT technology was recognised and showcased at national level. The APSECM has installed 65 IoT power monitoring devices in various MSME units to improve power factor and enhance equipment life ,” said Chandra Sekhara Reddy.
