Auction for offshore wind permit in Poland ends without winner – EQ Mag
Poland’s Ministry of Infrastructure said on Monday that no applicant has qualified for obtaining a concession to develop offshore wind farms in area 53.E.1 in the Baltic Sea.
According to the ministry, the bidder’s schedules for the implementation of the projects do not meet the criterion for starting or completing the projects, nor include the deadlines for obtaining a building permit. Moreover, the proposals ignore the ban on erecting and using artificial islands, structures and devices in the basin before the end of 2040.
The bidders included PKN Orlen, Shell, EDF, Equinor and RWE, local media reported, quoting ministry data.
The Polish Exclusive Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea is considered a very attractive place for investments in offshore wind energy due to its high wind speeds and the relatively small depth of the basin. In November, infrastructure deputy minister Marek Grobarczyk said that procedures for five areas for offshore wind farms are expected at the turn of 2022 and 2023 and for another six in May 2023.
