The Australian government will support additional firmed renewables in New South Wales (NSW) through its Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), it was announced on Thursday.
The CIS will underwrite investment for up to 550 MW of additional firmed capacity as part of the NSW Energy Roadmap’s firming tender, increasing the size of the tender from 380 MW to 930 MW.
Bids representing more than 3.3 GW of capacity have already been submitted to the tender round, which is being conducted by AEMO Services as the NSW Consumer Trustee. Final tender results will be announced by the end of September.
The CIS is overall expected to facilitate 6 GW to support grid reliability and security. The next CIS auction will be in South Australia and Victoria, and will be announced by October, the government said.
