Austria awards EUR 323m for solar in 1st funding call for 2023 – EQ Mag
Austria is experiencing a surge in solar energy adoption as about 90,700 applications for solar installations of up to 20 kW have been approved in the first funding call for 2023.
The Ministry of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology said last week it has given the green light to all funding applications from private individuals, extending a total of EUR 323 million (USD 354.58m) in funding in the first call.Between March 23 and April 6, about 9,300 funding applications were submitted, mostly by companies, for systems of between 20 kW and 1,000 kW. In this category, financial support is awarded to the projects with the lowest funding requirements per kilowatt after a bidding process.
The 100,000 applications for solar installations come with 33,000 applications for storage systems.
Environment minister Leonore Gewessler commented that “the expansion of solar power strengthens independence and ensures falling energy prices. It’s really good news that so many people are contributing to this. Over 100,000 applications are an absolute record.”
The next call for solar plants of up to 1,000 kW with or without storage will be open from June 14 to June 28.
