Azelio to supply storage unit for project within Dubai’s solar mega-complex
December 9 : Swedish company Azelio AB (FRA:4AZ) has secured an order to supply its thermal energy storage unit for a side project at the 950-MW phase IV of the Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum solar complex in Dubai.
The energy storage specialist said Wednesday that its TES.POD unit will form part of a system powering a visitor centre at the phase IV site. The order was placed by United Arab Emirates-based ALEC Energy, which is leading the EPC duties for the fourth phase of Dubai’s mega-project.
The system designed for the visitor centre will combine Azelio’s technology with photovoltaic (PV) and fast response equipment such as lithium-ion batteries, the company said. The TES.POD unit will handle energy shifting for baseload power in the system, while the batteries will manage mini-grid stability, the press release states.
This year, Azelio and ALEC Energy signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to partner on 49 MW of storage projects in the Middle East and Africa. The UAE company is also installing Azelio’s verification project in Abu Dhabi alongside Masdar and Khalifa University, Azelio said.
